Martingale System and Roulette

The Martingale System

All gamblers are familiar with the Martingale betting system. You may not know it by that name, but you have probably discovered it on your own.

The Martingale System is simple: Make a one unit bet, say, $1. If you lose, you multiply your losing bet by two - $2 - and wager that. If you lose again, you double again to $4 and you keep on doing so until you win. Then you go return to your initial wager. By betting in this way, you cover all your losses the moment you win.

So suppose you bet $1 in blackjack and you lose. Bet $2 in the next game. If you win, you profit by $1 (you also get back the first $1 you lost). If you lose, you lose $3. Bet $4 and so on and on.

Does the Martingale Betting System work?

It works, particularly with roulette, but there are three major drawbacks with this system.

First, you need a huge session budget to start with. A $1 bet seems small. But keep doubling that on a wild losing streak and you'll find yourself broke before you know it: $1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 1,024. Lose ten times in a row and you've lost $1,024!

Second, casinos put betting limits in their tables. They know about the Martingale betting system. Why would they let you get a sure win? If you hit the betting cap (say $400) before you win, you lose a big amount of cash and cannot get it back with the system.

Third, profits are very small. If you bet $1 and lose six straight times before winning, you risk $64 to win only $5!

So what use is the Martingale betting system?

Well, the truth is, no single betting system guarantees big wins. The Martingale works only with stable games and then only if you have a lot of money and the table limit is many, many times your minimum bet (tough luck!).

What casino game can I use the Martingale betting system on?

Try roulette. Roulette is a game of chance with a ball and a revolving numbered wheel. Your goal is to predict what number the ball will hit when the wheel stops spinning.

To use Martingale with roulette, wait until the red or black has not shown up for 3-4 spins. Then you apply the Martingale system as you already know how. Bet on one color, and that only. Make a side bet on the other color at $1 flat too if you want. Since it hasn't appeared 3-4 times already, it's quite unlikely you will suffer a prolonged streak.

Roulette has one or two 0's colored green. If 0 comes up, bet as if you lost and continue with the system. If you also made a side bet on the other color, increase your bet for that too to cover the loss.

This is the one safe way to play the Martingale. Find a game like roulette where one of two possible outcomes hasn't occurred recently, and then bet on it. This is a pretty sure win even though profits are very small.

You can try a variation of this technique as well. When you have lost 6-7 consecutive times, increase your bet. How much is up to you. The reason for this is that you are more likely to win .If you raise your bet, your profits will be greater if you do win. Just make sure you have the bankroll to back it up with.

Good luck!
